Never Give Up!

I shudder when I think I almost didn’t publish the book. After years of rejection letters, I felt, well, you know. Defeated. Paralysed. Stuck. I felt the book was worthless. Then I read that my favourite book that has inspired millions of writers and artists, Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way, had been rejected by publishers 41 times before it was published. I was shocked. In that moment, I felt a strange courage to take a chance on my writing. I remember my friend Diane asking me one day, “So whom are you going with for publishing?” And I remember hearing the words leave my lips before I knew what I was saying. It was a resolute, “I’m going with myself!”

I wasn’t ready for the question. I wasn’t ready for my answer either. A strange new voice came from within and informed the little scared girl inside that this was happening. I laughed nervously. I took my own breath away when I announced that to Diane and the world. In that moment I knew there would be no going back.

I decided to self-publish. I’ve learned everything I could in the past 7 months. Since its launch a few days ago, 7 Minutes to Freedom reached #1 New Release in 12 categories on Amazon in US and Canada. And in the Creativity category, I’m nestled right next to my idol, Julia Cameron, (see the picture below) who has inspired my book and my entire writing life. I could never ask for more. I feel complete.

Never underestimate your passion for writing and sharing your heart. Never underestimate the love and power of your community and their willingness to support you. I want to say to every writer, “May you lose the doubt and let your soul fly!”
